Zebra Shark

The Zebra shark is a fairly large species with a unique body design and color pattern. As its name suggests, the young zebra shark has a very dark colored body with light stripes and spots. Oddly, the adult zebra shark's body looks entirely different, with a greyish brown coloration dotted with dark spots. This shark has a long cylindrical body with prominent ridges on the sides, and a very long tail almost the same length as its body. The average length of the adult zebra shark is about 10 feet.
You can find zebra sharks in the Indo-West Pacific, living on the continental and insular shelves. Although this shark is a very common visitor around coral reefs, little is known about its behavior. It is a bottom-dwelling shark, spending much of its time resting on the ocean floor, while propping up on its pectorals fins in the sand. Mature females lay large, dark brown, rectangular eggs with hair like tendrils on the four corners. The tendrils are used to attach the eggs to the coral reefs for safety.
