The silky shark is a large, slim elegant beauty -- an oceanic shark found abundantly in tropical waters in many parts of the world. It occurs inshore over continental shelves and insular slopes as well as far from land in the open sea. It has moderately large eyes and a gracefully long rounded snout. The upper jaw is equipped with obliquely pointed, strongly serrated teeth. The upper body is gray-brown, bronze, or dark gray, sometimes almost blackish whereas the underside is generally white. The silky shark is also identified by its interdorsal ridge. It grows to a maximum length of about ten feet.
